Over 95 Years of Service to Our Church
Women’s Guild
Join us in our mission to support and uplift the St. Leon Armenian Church community through dedicated service and fellowship.
St. Leon Church Women's Guild
We are humbled yet proud to serve our Church and preserve our unique heritage as generations of women before us.
The St. Leon Women’s Ladies Aid Society was initiated on September 1, 1928 by eight dedicated women in Paterson, New Jersey. Although its name has changed to St. Leon Women’s Guild and our membership has grown exponentially, our purpose remains the same. We look forward to celebrating our 100th Anniversary in 2028!
Through monthly meetings and a variety of activities and programs, our Guild works to help our Church in any way it can. Joining the Women’s Guild means becoming a part of the organization which is known as “The backbone of our parish”. We welcome women of all ages and offer a variety of opportunities through which to become involved. Aside from service to our church and community, we encourage fellowship among members along with spiritual and personal growth.
Perhaps known best for the tasty delights coming from the kitchen for various events, our Women’s Guild regularly makes and bakes choreg which is offered for sale on Sundays after church. We hold our annual Easter Fundraiser taking orders for two kinds of choreg and other items for the holiday as well as preparing food for the June Picnic and Fall Food Festival. Various speakers are often featured at meetings and side trips to various venues have been offered.
Service to the community includes the long-standing relationship with Eva’s Shelter in Paterson, the original home of St. Leon. Over the years, our members have taken part in a wide variety of services, especially for Eva’s Hope Residence for Women and Children, by providing monthly meals, decorating the home for the Christmas Holiday, hosting activities for the mothers and children in residence and collecting and donating various necessary items. More recently, we have served meals at Eva’s Kitchen to those less fortunate, a very heart-warming experience.
